The fourth-ranked Husker bowlers swept defending champion and top-seeded McKendree in their first-round match Friday at the NCAA Championships in Las Vegas.
Nebraska won the traditional match 1,134-1,037, then won the five-game Baker match 1,193-1,031 to complete the sweep.
In the traditional match, Jillian Martin led the team with a 247 that included strikes in her first five frames. All five Huskers scored at least 200.
NU bowlers also combined for 14 strikes in 15 rolls in the 10th frame of the traditional match, including 11 consecutive to start the frame.
McKendree won the first game of the Baker match 217-200, but the Huskers won the second game 232-157 to take a 58-pin lead. Nebraska won the next three games to clinch the match.
"That was an excellent start to say the least," NU coach Paul Klempa said in a release. "We shot two 1100s and really thumped the competition in that one. That's a really good team that we played in McKendree that everyone knows. To get out of the gate like that and to execute to that degree and be as calm and light-hearted as they were. It is putting into motion everything that we did in preparation so I was really proud of them."
