Reader concerned on area health care
Gering resident here. I’ve been one my entire life. I walked to Lincoln along an assigned path, I crossed 10th St as a 12-year-old to get to the junior high. When the civic center was getting built I got in trouble for being in that giant hole.
Just because a syndicated columnist writes something that is printed in newspapers does not necessarily make it so. That’s especially true of the column written by Froma Harrop that was printed in the Star-Herald on Tuesday, July 5 headlined “Biden is, actually, doing well.” That’s malarkey.
Albert Einstein believed that "the world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything."
Only when the Vietnam War and body bags of young men being returned home was televised did public opinion change. Until photographs of shooting victims are splashed over TV, newspapers, and public media, nothing will change.
It is interesting when a parent’s worst nightmare comes true, such as horrible shootings in schools, that members of the gun lobby try to comfort them with the common comment, “Our thoughts and prayers are with you.” It is as though they are trying to manage their guilt for being so stubborn…
Democracy is fragile and the United States is no exception.
Enough! It’s long past time to do something to put a lid on the surge of crazies shooting up school class rooms, etc. all over America!
Reading a headline in the Star-Herald on May 19 which stated, “Political parties confident about flipping seats in Nebraska Legislature” seemed to point out a huge problem in our apolitical unicameral system … the system is not apolitical.
I am writing to you concerning the article written by Henry Cordes of the Omaha World-Herald on May 22, 2022, titled “Lack of Conservative buy-in time helped doom Nebraska prison reform efforts.”
When I look back at my memories of the old Westmoor Swimming Pool and the Splash Arena in Scottsbluff, I reflect on learning to swim as a young child; spending long lazy days of summer at the pool with family and friends; employment as a young teenager as a lifeguard; our own children learni…
It has been a hard couple of years for all of us.
It was wonderful to be reminded recently that kindness in western Nebraska. As I was waiting on my electric cart to check out a local grocery store in Scottsbluff, the lady in line ahead of me performed two random acts of kindness.
In 2018, the commissioners received a 38% increase in compensation on the reasoning that they were not equal in pay with counties of comparable population size and tax base.
One candidate in the 2022 Nebraska Gubernatorial Race stands above all others. Jim Pillen will best serve as our next governor. He was raised on a small town farm in Platte County, Nebraska. After playing football for the Huskers and earning a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, he became one …
I would not vote for Robin Stevens for Nebraska Board of Education. Months ago, I had the opportunity to have contact with him several times over the new wave of sex education for kindergarteners and up as well as the race theory issues.

To the voters of Scotts Bluff County,
I am voting for Angie Hernandez, Republican candidate for Register of Deeds, Scotts Bluff County.
As a proud, life-long resident of Gering, I am writing this letter to strongly urge you to vote “yes” on Prop 1.

It is a privilege for me to write this letter recommending that when you go to the polls for the primary election, you vote for Krista Baird for the Gering School Board.
I do not believe that anyone looks forward to paying taxes, me included. But in a more complete understanding paying taxes is a privilege to live in this community, state and country. We take for granted every day we will have police and fire protection as well as running water, disposal ser…
On May 10th, you will have the opportunity to vote for Kevin Stocker for the District 5 Public Service Commission. I have served with Kevin on an elected board. He has the business, agricultural background and practical experience with the Public Service Commission to make a positive differe…
The timing of allegations against gubernatorial candidate, Charles W. Herbster, of inappropriate behavior toward women is very curious. The Charles W. Herbster we know has always gone out of his way to support and promote women. It is unbelievable that this man would inappropriately touch an…
