Scottsbluff Public Schools released the final version of its fall reopening plan on Thursday, with masks as the cornerstone piece to an in-person fall semester.

Nearly a third of Scottsbluff parents feel uncomfortable sending their children back to in-person classes due to COVID-19, according to a recent district survey. The survey was done as school district officials consider fall plans.

The move out of the classroom and onto the internet came with many unknowns for local educators. 

Some area schools report participation numbers slightly lower when compared to traditional attendance numbers recorded prior to e-learning. Others are seeing larger declines.

In some cases, it is a lack of access to technology and in some that isn’t a factor at all. Maybe it’s because the novelty has worn off or because students are having trouble learning in a virtual enviroment.

Seniors at Scottsbluff and Gering High Schools will have a graduation ceremony this summer.

The ceremonies were announced on Friday morning and are tentatively set for June.

Gering’s ceremony is set for 1 p.m. on June 21 at Five Rocks Amphitheater. Scottsbluff’s will take later that day at 4 p.m. at the Bearcat Stadium.
