Wayne Woldt has been a pilot since 1975, and describes himself as having always had a bit of the “aviation bug.”

However, for about 20 years, his day job as an associate professor of environmental and water resources engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s East Campus had kept him grounded most of the time.

Around 2012, when Congress passed Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Modernization and Reform Act of 2012, it opened the gates for increased use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) for commercial purposes.
