Both Bulldogs teams open the home schedule Saturday against Sidney in an afternoon/night doubleheader.

The Bulldogs boys team returns six state qualifiers from last season and open the season Friday at North Platte. The girls squad has 14 wrestlers out this year.

The men's soccer team, which advanced to the national tournament, had both the top offensive and defensive players. Both were first-team all-region selections as well.

          The Cougars volleyball team had the season come to an end in Region IX tournament, while Eastern Wyoming College advanced to the national tournament.

          The brackets were released Saturday morning, after the Bulldogs closed out the regular season scheduled with a 41-14 setback at Hastings. Rece Knight threw for two touchdowns in the loss.

          WNCC hosts Otero College —a 1-0 winner over Casper College — in the region final, which is set for a 2 p.m. start. The winner advances to nationals.

          Axton Stone was third, Nathan Seiler was eighth and Bryce Carrillo and Aiden Bell finished 10th and 14th respectively. The Bulldogs had 35 points, two ahead of Beatrice.

          Bo Gable scored on a touchdown reception and kickoff return in the third quarter as the Bulldogs improved to 6-2 overall. Quinn Bailey rushed for 156 yards and a score.

          The Cougars have three road games this week. The Cougars travel to Eastern Wyoming College on Tuesday, and to Lamar Community College and McCook Community College Friday and Saturday, respectively.

          The Gering softball team had its season come to an end last Friday with a pair of loses to Northwest in a Class B district final.

          The Cougars earned the top seed in the Region IX playoffs that start next week. WNCC and Casper College both have first-round byes and host semifinal matches on Oct. 26.

          The Cougars men's soccer team beat Laramie County CC on Saturday to move into the top spot in the Region IX standings and clinch a top spot for the playoffs.
