We finished the 2024 season with a season record of 5-4 and district record of 3-2. We earned a spot in the state playoffs, losing to North Platte St. Pats in the first round. This year’s team included 22 individuals. As coaches, we are proud of these young men for their commitment to each other to produce a solid football season. Like many sports we offer at HPS, football is a tough sport. In high school, it can be one of the toughest, especially if you want to be successful year after year and to continue to grow…you have to commit to coming to practice a few days before school is even in session…it is a physically and mentally demanding sport…within a season, it’s not uncommon to practice in extreme hot or cold temperatures and in rain or snow…you physically battle your own teammates weekly to make each other better…you have to sacrifice personal time from things you like to do so that you can be with the team and make the team better…you sometimes have to fill a role on the team that isn’t your favorite role, but it is a role that makes the team better…all of these things are examples of what makes this sport tough. All of these things were challenges that our roster of 22 had to work to overcome throughout this season, and as a result of their commitment to their team, I believe they will be better prepared for life’s challenges and work well with others when they move on from HPS and become young adults.
