Nebraska healthcare professionals can register for free Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) certification training through a partnership between Tobacco Free Nebraska, the Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Center, and the Rural Health Transformation Program, according to a news release from the Panhandle Public Health District dated August 3, 2026.
The training is designed for healthcare professionals who are interested in tobacco cessation or who provide clinical care to individuals who use tobacco. Three sessions are scheduled: an in-person training in Gering, Nebraska, from September 1–3, 2026; a virtual training from January 19–21, 2027; and an in-person training in North Platte, Nebraska, from May 4–6, 2027. The program is accredited by the Mayo Clinic School of Continuous Professional Development and the Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Programs. The 2026 course has been approved for 30.25 Continuing Medical Education credits, with additional credit types available. To earn certification, participants must complete about 10 hours of online coursework, attend the live training, pass a certification examination, and complete practice-hour requirements.
